Cyst: A surface mass that feels tire-rubber-firm (not woody-hard) and that you suspect would burst is very likely an epidermoid inclusion ("sebaceous") cyst. It seems to be bothering you as it would most people, and should be seen and probably excised, and if you have a mass of uncertain nature, excision is generally a good choice.
