Yes: Oxycontin is long acting, slow release. Oxycodone is fast acting and release. Oxycontin is for pain maintenance and oxycodone can be used for breakthrough pain. Discuss with your doctor or pain specialist first before you start or increase the dose/frequency of either.

Why?: They are both narcotics. Although one is suppose to be longer acting, the action is variable and all you are doing is adding one narcotic to another and increasing the risk of overdose. I would leave the prescribing and directions to your doctor. In the state of fl, there are about 3 deaths a day , due to overdoses, for this very reason.
