Many ways: It depends on the type of thumb fracture that you have. Some require immobilization only, others are best served with fixation with pins or plates and screws. If you have a thumb fracture, please see an orthopedic surgeon for an exam and x-rays to make sure your fracture is treated appropriately.

Cast or surgery: If the bone has not shifted, a cast will suffice. Otherwise surgery is needed to put the bones back and pins or screws to hold them together.
