Not 1st choice.: Usually not the first choice, there are other blood pressure medications which are considered safer for the fetus, like aldomet, (methyldopate) but let your doctor try and decide. It's very important to have your blood pressure well controlled.I have used verapamil, if Aldomet (methyldopate) doesn't work or Aldomet (methyldopate) doesn't control it.

Often: Becoming pregnant warrants a full medication review with your doctor. In the case of verapamil, studies in humans and animals don’t show an increased risk. There is at least one known case of pregnancy attributable to the combination of verapamil together with a now more rarely used cardiac medication (digoxin). So very low risk, but this will be a discussion to have with you doctor.
