R/O Delirium: It is difficult to make a diagnoses without having all the fact , seeing the patient reviewing his medications, his lab result , reviewing his medical condition and neurological diagnoses. However, sudden confusion and fluctuating level of attention mostly related to delirium..!

Multiple postings: You've posted this question 2 other times also, and i answered these similarly to dr. Amawi here. Please get your father to his primary care physician for complete evaluation, as new confusion/disorientation can mean a medical illness that needs treatment. Your father's sitting in a dark room sounds like he may have been depressed/otherwise not feeling well previously, but now needs acute help.

Dementia? : Dad needs a thorough evaluation to be sure he isn't having a reaction to medications or has early onset dementia.
