All materials differ: Yes and no. When ice melts it changes shape however volume is a different question. A half cup of water is still a half cup of water frozen or not despite shape changes. If you measure only with your eyes the ice may appear to have more vol. Think about chocolate, ice cream or say steel. Great question. Check out a physics website.
