Dr. can check at 3mo: A young baby makes his own schedule, but it should be pretty good by 3-4 months. Healthy babies are fed "ad lib", which means we let the baby decide how much to drink. However, after 3 months of age, a normal baby can be allowed to go 6-7 hours at night without feeding or other parental interaction. The pediatrician can talk about that at the 3 month check-up.

Feed longer : A nearly 3month old infant should be feeding every 3-4 hours and usually for 20-25 minutes per feeding. A feeding volume of 4-6 oz would be appropriate. Don't feed the infant every time he/she cries, console using other methods. Have your doctor check your baby's weight and plot on growth curve.

You can't: Every 4 hrs between the feeds for this age is just enough. I would strongly advise against to feed baby less often. The only 6 hrs break once in a 24 hrs the baby might get for a sleep at night. It depends on the size of the baby's stomach. At this age it is too small to accommodate a bigger food volume and not enough glycogen storage in the liver to keep up with longer fasting in between. Sorry.
