Cardiac myxoma: These are the most common types of tumors that arise from cells within heart tissue. They occur more commonly in women and about 75% are located in the left atrium of the heart. There are rare hereditary forms of this tumor. They are associated with a variety of symptoms that are not often associated with cardiac disease. An echocardiogram can often detect these tumors. Rarely are they malignant.
