Symptoms: fibroadenomas are usually single lumps, but about 10 - 15% of women have several lumps that may affect both breastsdepends on location and wether you have discomfort or are concerned about location (appearance). They are benign, but one argument for removal is.."is it a fibroadenoma?" a biopsy of the breast is the best choice!

Agree with Dr. N: The usual reason for surgery is to remove the lesion to ascertain that it is a fibroadenoma and not some thing worse/cancer.
