Exercise: Typically a small placenta occurs when a patient has high blood pressure problems in pregnancy, or an infection. If you had neither of those, you might want to request your medical record. Typically if placenta is small, so is baby. Exercise helps to keep blood pressure normal. Eating a healthy diet as well. Sounds like you getting additional information about previous pregnancy could help.

Keep healthy: The best plan you can follow is to avoid any issues that can interfere with a healthy pregnancy.Eat a balanced diet.Avoid caffeine and nicotine that might influence placental function.Rest when tired, get a flu shot when available & practice sanitary hand washing to decrease your chances of random infections. Then you wait. About 4% of pregnancies have an unexpected outcome.

Dont worry: you did not have anything to do with the size of the placenta--unless you smoke--then dont.just take regular good prenatal care--you will be fine--NO SMOKING
