Sternotomy: Sternotomy is performed in which the sternum is surgically opened & then put back together following bypass. However some centers are performing robotic surgery which does not involve sternotomy.

Two ways:: Usually, the heart is exposed by dividing the breastbone with a saw. Depending on the operation, adequate exposure can be obtained by going between the ribs.
