It is not your back!: To relieve the pain of "sciatica" one must identify whether there is pressure on the nerve or whether there is some disease affecting the nerve. Assuming this has been done, usually the pain arises from pressure on the nerve. Anti-inflammatory medication at therapeutic doses may help. Gentle exercise to make the soft tissue of the buttock healthier, get blood flowing to the area. Try therapy.

See a doctor: You need xrays, MRI and an exam by a surgeon. This will determine the next treatment strategy. Either medications, physical therapy or epidural injections. Or a combination of those. And if severe and not improving, surgery would be necessary.
