A member asked:

What is the purpose of estrogen in birth control? what role does it play?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Inhibits LH surge: Estrogen inhibits your pituitary from releasing leutonizing hormone (lh) so that ovulation does not occur. It may affect follicle formation as well, but there have been women who have follicle maturation while on estrogen based birth control.
