What are the side effects of a spleen rupture?

You could die: Allthough you don't have to have a spleen to live, it serves rather important functions regarding the red cells and immune functions. Because large amount of blood goes through this organ, a rupture could potentially be fatal. Obviously injury to the spleen can cause much pain and rupturing/excessive bleeding is a scary consequence. Enlarged spleen/mono =no contact sport. Consult doc. Good luck.

Bleeding: The most serious problem is bleeding that can be lifethreatening. This may lead to surgery to remove the spleen or repair it.
