Probably spasm: This commonly occurs with excessive use or ligamentous laxity. I would not beconcerned unless associated with trauma or if this becomes a constant problem or interferes with your daily functions.

Trigger finger: If this remains a persistent problem, then it is usually a "trigger finger." these are typically worse in the morning and can loosen up throughout the day. The finger usually locks or triggers at the middle knuckle or pip joint. If it persists, see a hand surgeon. It is easily fixed with either a cortisone shot or a simple surgical procedure.

Trigger finger: Generally, locking of the fingers or thumbs are caused by trigger fingers. This is a benign condition in which the tendon becomes entrapped around a structure called the A1 pulley. If this is painful, an injection or surgery can improve the symptoms. If this is not painful, you can live with this as long as you have full range of motion and full function.
