Not very effective.: Quinolones, like ciprofloxacin, are not first line treatments for chlamydia. The effectiveness of Cipro in particular is questionable. Other quinolones are more effective, but require a full week of therapy and are more costly than the preferred agents, Doxycycline or azithromycin. Gonorrhea, usually treated at the same time, is now showing resistance to quinolones, making them less attractive.
