Therapy: Unfortunately, there are few good alternatives to severe arthritis of the hip. Medications, therapy and activity modification may help symptoms, but the only definitive treatment is usually surgery.

Multiple: Weight loss, exercise, muscle strengthening, increasing flexibility, anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone injections and a cane are all good nonsurgical treatment options. Surgically, sometimes we recommend hip arthrosocopy or hip resurfacing instead of or as a delay tactic prior to hip replacement.
