Post nasal drip: The sensation of mucus in the throat is also known as post nasal drip. Usually the combination of maintaining hydration, saline irrigation once or twice a day for one week or more, along with use of a mucus thinner (oral medication) in very bothersome cases. If a lot of mucus is being produced and swallowed, it can cause upset stomach or nausea.
