Complications.: Rarely shingles complications could lead to death. Complications from shingles may include chronic pain called postherpetic neuralgia, visual loss for ophthalmic shingles, hearing loss/facial paralysis or balance problems if it effects the facial nerve near the ear, secondary bacterial infections of blisters & scarring. Rarely encephalitis or death may occur.
