Symptoms?: The decision to treat gallstones is not based on the size or number of stones, but on the presence or absence of pain. A typical gallbladder attack causes a constant, non burning, non cramping pain well-localized to the right-upper or upper-midline. The pain often radiates into the back+/-nausea+/-vomiting; often precipitated by (fatty) food; duration hour(s). Ring a bell?...See a surgeon.

Gallbladder removal: If you have had any discomfort, bloating or abdominal pains, and have documented gallstones, the most prudent treatment is removal of the gallbladder. Size of the stones is not relevant, nor is the quantity.
