Yes: In adults, bowlegs are usually due to arthritis and can only be corrected surgicially. In children, there are nutritional and developmental defects that can sometimes be corrected with nutrition or bracing.

Adults with varus knees (bowed legs) may be a candidate for realignment via a high tibial osteotomy (HTO). The goal is to redistribute the load of bearing weight more evenly cross the knee from the inside (medial aspect) to the outside (lateral aspect) of the knee.
