Diagnosed with hemicrania continua.indomethacin is not working.what next?

Doctor can re-check: Hemicrania continua is supposed to be responsive to treatment with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug Indomethacin or similar drugs. Amitriptyline and other tricyclic antidepressants may be effective in some people with hemicrania continua as a preventative treatment. The neurologist can re-check to see if there has be partial improvement, and to see if further improvement is expected.

Headaches: Hemicrania continua, or continuous headache, is a rare type of headache that doesn't stop. It usually responds well to non steroidal anti-inflammatory medications. If Indomethacin is not effective, anothr nsaids like celebrex, or tca like amitripyline or anti-seizure like Lyrica (pregabalin) might be helpful. Please see a headache specialist for evaluation.

Indomethacin: How high did you go on indomethacin? It has to be taken three times a day, 150-200 mg/day before it is decided its not helpful. Melatonin or gliacin (natural) can be effective as well. Nerve blocks are option.

Hemicrania continua: How much indomethacin have you tried? If you gave it a try, perhaps a prevention medicine, such as amitriptyline, would help you. http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/hemicrania_continua/hemicrania_continua.htm
