Lots of possiblities: Numbness could be from diabetes, thyroid disorders, vitamin B12 deficiency, spinal nerves and back problems are some of the more common reasons. I would recommend you work with your doctor and find out the reason. He may send you to a neurologist.

Many things: Back issues like herniated or compressed disc, systemic diseases. This is something that you really should have checked out and not prolong visiting a dcotor. Sometimes, these conditons can be progressive and or worsen the longer you wait to treat.
