My pain dr wants me to see a psych who believes in 'mind over matter' instead of meds for my pn. i don't know that i believe in this. your thoughts?

Not sure what U mean: Chronic pain generally involves mental, physical, and emotional symptoms -- some would say spiritual too. Meds can help manage symptoms, but if you're not enlisting the greatest healing power you have (your mind and your own innate restorative system) you're severely limiting your own progress. I suggest working with both doctors, and practicing suggested mind-body methods, etc as these can help.

Use both: The combination of medications and cognitive behavioral therapy can go hand in hand very well. You may also want to look into other types of therapy like exercise, physical therapy, etc. When used together the results can be more than just additive. Talk it over with your pain dr.
