Many things: There are many things that can cause hip pain after prolonged walking. In younger people common causes are greater trochanteric bursitis, iliopsoas tendinitis, hip labral tears or acetabular impingement. In older people or those who had developmental hip disease or trauma to the hip this may be arthritis. The work up begins with a history and physical exam by an orthopedic surgeon.
