Water intake: Srink water of you are thirsty, or if you see very dark yellow urine. Otherwise, your kidneys can take care of themselves. There is no evidence that extra water makes any difference for kidney health.

See below: Excess water intake has nothing to do with kidney function or kidney health. Drink water to quench your thirst. The kidneys ofcourse need water intake as waste is eliminated wth the water, but id does not mean that more water will eliminate more waste the kidneys regulate water elimination as well.

Water consumption: Surprisingly the kidney is able to function on 400-800 cc a day of fluids but what is recommended is really based on 1) heart function 2) history of kidney stones 3) current kidney function 4) other losses of fluid 5) achieving a certain urine output. In general a healthy person should drink 40-50 oz a day.
