White hair: A new york times article reported that caucasians usually start to notice white strands first, sometimes in their mid-30s, while those of asian or african american descent start to go gray later. Roughly 50 percent of the age-50 population are at least 50 percent gray. The cause of white hair is usually genetic.

At age 41-: Early Graying / whitening of hair is related to genetic predisposition. Age of initial graying is largely a matter of genetics. However stressors: nutritional deficiencies, chemotherapy, traumatic head injuries, low vitamin B levels, zinc deficiency, severe illness, surgery & marked emotional stress may impact earlier depigmentation in people who are already predisposed to gray hair.
