Several: Elevated ammonia levels are often seen in patients with liver disease. Laboratory tests can identify the level of ammonia in the blood. Physical examination may also reveal asterixis that may occur in the patient when they are holding their arm straight with a wrist bent like a crossing guard would do to say stop. The wrist is more likely to flap forward the higher the ammonia level is.

Any symptoms?: If you do not have any symptoms it is unlikely that blood ammonia level test is warranted. At your age if you are well enough to ask this question, it is unlikely that you need this test.
