Let the doctor do it: It is best that Mirena (levonorgestrel) be removed by a doctor- there is potential that you could cause harm yourself and you want to be in the right environment if there are complications. If you have lost insurance and are considering doing this - you may try local womens health center or health department. If you have insurance then it would be best to go have it removed (even if it is partially out).

Prolly ok: It would likely just come straight out, may not be east to grip the string and it's not my official advise but removing them is not rocket science? It mat have implanted which can be more paiful but make sure your removing it for the right reason.
