Bladder obstruction: Usual indications are urinary bladder outlet obstruction causing inability to void urine, urinary incontinence. Also done for surgical procedure.

Relieve obstruction: A tube ( catheter) is passed into the urinary tract to ensure passage of urine- generally if there is obstruction or if the patient does not have control for eg. Post operatively.
