Usually yes.: At least in the United States you need a prescription to obtain an agent to treat the medical condition of depression. There are otc options including same, st. John's wort, b9, b10, vitamin d, omega 3s etc. That have antidepressant effects, but of course they are "not intended to treat any disease or condition". They also do not generally come with a professional to guide your treatment!
