Check state website: Please look it up at your state government web site as well as feedbacks from the community and geriatric case manager. You should get a full tour, not partial one. It is lot better if it is run by small business corporation rather than nationally chain business because of less liability issues and better level of care. Red flags should include poor care, lack of activities, isolations, staff...

Specializes in Psychiatry - Geriatric

Question: Sadly, since most assisted living communities are in reality tertiary care psychiatric facilities, but without the acknowledgement of that reality, you must ensure that the staff have been fully trained; it is best to ask if they have a geriatric psychiatrist coming to the facility who is actively engaged in training the staff as well as seeing the patients; as well as full programs for loved ones.
