Learned Association: You can learn to calm yourself with many different types of objects. Don't limit yourself to visual stimuli; you can use sounds, especially music, scents, tastes, or tactile sensations, like holding a polished rock. To teach yourself to associate calm with these things, focus on them while you are feeling calm and relaxed. Then when you are upset, you can use the objects to help you feel calm.
