Several ways.: Blood in the urine can be visible, imparting pink to dark red color to the urine. Very small amounts may be invisible and testing need to be performed. In the clinic, hematuria can be detected by urine dipstick, which would reveal small, moderate, or large blood. A lab test called a microscopic urinalysis would show more than 3 red cells per high power field.
