Yes: Selsun blue is specially formulated to treat dandruff. Just make sure you put it on first thing in the shower and let it sit on your scalp for 5 minutes. And use it at least three times per week for it to be fully effective.

Possibly: Dandruff is flakes of skin, so should wash off. If it does not, it certainly can be nits, as these are the egg casings of head lice and are glued to the hair shaft. If his head itches, or other signs of irritation, it should be checked out. Headlice are very infectious!

Fungus: This is almost always a fungal infection of the scrotal skin. I ecommend trying an over the counter anti-fungal cream for a few weeks. If that does not help go see a urologist or dermatologist. Patricio gargollo pediatric urology childrens medical center, dallas, texas.

Topical steroids: Otc Hydrocortisone may help in mild cases but usually requires a prescription topical steroid. It can be triggered by a sensitivity to a yeast called malassezia furfur which can be treated with a topical antifungal or sulfacetamide. Usually recurs and may spread to other parts of the face especially t-zone and scalp, chest, ears.

A 20-year-old female asked:

My dandruff doesn't seem to be going away. I've used shampoos, shower every day but nothing works. Any suggestions?

Let it sit: Sometimes applying dandruff shampoo, rubbing it in, and allowing it to dry before washing it off (about 15 minutes) will help. Do this 3 times a week for a few weeks, then periodically after. If if doesn't work, see your doctor for prescription to help.
