Not common: Pseudotumor cerebri has been associated with steroid use and hormone imbalance. It can occur with pregnancy but is rare. Treatment is just repeated spinal taps to relieve pressure, and decompression of the optic nerves if severe enough to affect vision. Continued drainage of spinal fluid can be done by placing a lumbo-peritoneal shunt. Diamox (acetazolamide) can be used but not while pregnant.
