Scar reduction: Use vitamin E oil and massage the incision. You can also use a laser to decrease the intensity of the scar. Pdl laser is great for improvement but will take several treatment.

Depends: On how old the scar is and if the wound was repaired correctly. Assuming the repair was correct most scars are thick and red for 6 months. They slowly mature and usually take 6-18 months to look as good as they are going to. If it is a recent scar put topical silicone on it and give it 18 months. Then go back and see the surgeon if you are still unhappy.
