The basics: Intestinal contents within the small intestines are a loose watery consistency. When the water extraction/recovery function of the large intestines has not happened, diarrhea occurs. This can be triggered by infection, a reaction to foods, medications or other factors. Recovery occurs when the content movement speed slows & water extraction occurs.
