It depends on...: ...What it is pushing up against. Fatty tumors, or lipomas, are benign lumps which typically develop in the fatty layer just under the skin; occasionally, they develop deeper, at the muscle layer. Symptoms are usually secondary to what the tumor is pushing up against, and are usually mild-to-minimal. Most people request excision due to cosmetic reasons.
