Rest fluids ibuprofe: Most throat infections are caused by viruses. Therefore, they are self limited. Treatment is symptomatic- relieving pain, fever or aches. Rest is important to help the body conserve energy to fight off the infection. A strep throat infection is also self limited, but we treat it with antibiotics to avoid secondary problems like rheumatic fever, glomerulonephritis, or pandas.
