Benadryl (diphenhydramine): Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is not an anti-anxiety medication. People take it for its drowsiness side-effect. It will not relieve your anxiety whatsoever.

MAYBE: Although Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is not indicated for anxiety, it will not hurt and some people do respond to the side effect of drowsiness from antihistamines . So in other words in may help some. Also, it is usually not particular addictive or abusable like xanax for instance.
