Yes: DID is caused by prolonged abuse during childhood. Being unable to escape from the situation, the child's brain adapts and survives via natural mechanisms related to dreaming and play to create an inner world of different identities. This may result in a person who appears adequately adjusted and is unaware of what's inside. DID may not come to light until symptoms emerge in adult life.
