Depending on the location and size of the cancer, it is not uncommon for women with breast cancer to note tenderness when palpating the tumor. However, breast pain can occur due to many other problems; most women with breast pain do not have cancer. Bottom line: any persistent breast pain warrants physician evaluation.

Usually no: Generally breast cancer is not associated with breast pain. Painful breast conditions are more likely benign fibrocystic conditions. But a persistent breast lump needs evaluation with a doctor, painful or not.
