Primary pneumonic plague can be acquired by inhalation of respiratory secretions or aerosolized droplets from infected animals or humans, or by laboratory exposure. Secondary pneumonic plague is more common and arises via hematogenous spread of bacteria from a bubo or other source.

It is an infection: Caused by Yersinia pestis. Primary pneumonic plague can be acquired by inhalation of respiratory secretions or aerosolized droplets from infected animals or humans or by complicating otter forms of plague. It has short incubation period (hours to days) followed by sudden onset of difficulty breathing, fever, chest pain, cough with bloody sputum.
