Skin breakdown: Bedsores are areas where the skin is damaged from lack of oxygen. The skin dies and forms an ulcer. In short, the blood supply is altered. Infection can then set in.

See Below: Bed sores are caused by prolonged pressure on the skin . . . Usually over bony prominences such as hips or shoulder blades. They can be common in people that are wheelchair or bed bound and are unable to change position frequently. Early bed sores may look like only mild skin redness. This can progress to pain, ulceration, infection, and even involvement of the underlying muscle or bone.
