Small percentage: Sexual side effects are listed at 3% overall; however, if they occur they can persists for months after stopping the medication. Depression is a more common side-effect. A male asked:
I took propecia (finasteride) for hair loss for around 6 months in 2004-2005. How do I reverse ED side effects? What kind of specialist should I visit?

It depends: It really depends on the side effects that you're having from taking propecia. Generally the side effects from Propecia are temporary and they disappear once you stop taking the medication. Some of the side effects that can persist are erectile dysfunction and gynecomastia. The treatment for ed is drugs like viagra (sildenafil) and gynecomastia may require plastic surgery.

A 42-year-old member asked:
Hair loss: trying a med called propecia (finasteride) does this work or not?

Yes: There are only two drugs that are fda approved for hair growth; Propecia (finasteride) is one and rogain is the other. Propecia (finasteride) is effective in men but not everyone will see an improvement. You have to use it for 6-12 months to see an improvement. It also works better to prevent hair loss than to help hair regrowth.
