IBS: Ibs diagnosis may be confirmed by GI specialist. If uncomplicated, it may be managed by internal medicine or family medicine physician.

Possibly: Many internists ; family practitioners are qualified to treat patients with ibs. However, in more difficult to treat cases, a gastroenterologist may be the more appropriate care provider.

IBS: Are you sure you have ibs? You should see a gastroenterologist to perform the necessary tests to exclude other diagnoses. Once other conditions are ruled out, you could either continue to be seen by a gastroenterologist or followed by your primary care doctor.

It depends.: IBS is a very common syndrome, and it is treated by primary care doctors regularly. However, if the diagnosis is not clear, or the treatment is not helping your symptoms, often patients with IBS are referred to gastroenterologists. I would start with your local primary care doctor first. Good luck.
