Benign thyroid cyst: An adenoma of the thyroid is a benign cystic mass that can secrete thyroid hormone. When tumors grow, they need adequate blood supply; however, if they grow faster than their blood supply can support them, the innermost portion of the mass dies, which is also known as undergoing "necrosis", because it has the worst blood supply relative to the surrounding tumor cells.
