Fever in infants: Any temperature above 100 degrees rectal is considered a fever at this age. If he has a cold or cough it is probably from that. You should have him checked by his pediatrician if his temp is above 100.4. Sometimes fever is the only symptom of a serious infection so better to be safe. Atleast call the doctor and see if your son needs to be seen after you give him or her the full history.

Hard to say: All kids should have a temperature, but in the normal range. If it is a fever, it may be a simple self healing illness or something more serious.Often the best gauge is the kids activities of daily living. If they stay on their normal feed/play/sleep pattern it is more likely minor.If they "act sick" it may be more important.If it ever freaks you out, have it checked.
