Maybe, maybe not...: Some irritation to a muscle, nerve, or part of a nerve that goes to certain muscle fibers may cause those fibers to twitch. Such twitching is usually for a few hours or a day, and only once in a while. In those cases, doctors and patients usually don't spend time looking for a cause. If symptoms have been there a whole week, or are recurrent, a primary doctor or a neurologist can evaluate.
